In the UK, the Vodafone Foundation and Vodafone's corporate responsibility commitments were awarded best large UK company for 'Giving Something Back'. The annual awards surveyed more than 200,000 employees for this year’s Best Companies project.
Winner of the special award for Giving Something Back, Vodafone UK was recognised for matching funds raised by employees for their favourite causes and encouraging paid volunteering time. It noted the success of the World of Difference campaign which enables people to spend a year working for their chosen charity and get paid.
The awards commented on the Lifetracks programme. This is the Foundation's UK three year, £5million funding initiative, which aims to encourage charities to work together in collaboration to empower and equip all young people to make informed life choices about their work, study and training. The collaboration of four charities is led by YouthNet, in partnership with Rathbone, The Foyer Federation and Skill. They are sharing the funding for projects helping 16-25 year-olds facing social exclusion.
The Sunday Times also awarded Vodafone UK the prestigious award for its CR activity, where it is on track to reduce its energy consumption and aims to reduce its global CO2 emissions by 50% by 2020. Employees were noted as contributing in their own way and using green travel incentives such as interest-free loans for bikes and scooters.
